No. 40 NC State Falls In ACC Opener

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 40 NC State men's tennis team fell Friday afternoon to No. 53 Virginia Tech, 6-1. The Pack moves to 10-7 (0-1 ACC) this season.
Match Recap:
NC State switched around its doubles line up, as Michael Ogden moved up to the No. 1 doubles spot to partner with Ivan Saveljic and Nick Horton paired with Igor Saveljic on court two.
Virginia Tech's No. 12 duo of Andreas Bjerrehus and Joao Monteiro defeated the Pack at court 1. The Hokies clinched the doubles point with a narrow 6-4 victory at No. 3 spot in the lineup. The match on court two was tied at 5-5 when it was abandoned.
The Hokies continued its strong start to the match in singles play, jumping out to first-set wins on all six courts.
Thomas Weigel narrowly fell in his first set, but rebounded with a with a huge tie-break win in the second set, 7-6(9). The close match continued into the third set, as Weigel won 10-6 in the tiebreaker to to clinch the win. It served as his fifth win in a row and moved him to 14-2 on the season.
Horton and Simon Norenius' win streaks ended as Horton fell on court one to No. 20 Monteiro and Norenius dropped a tough match to Bjerrehus at court two.
Virginia Tech clinched the match with a win at court four as No. 76 Edoardo Tessaro won in two sets over Ivan Saveljic.
