NC States Takes Down Elon In Season Opener, 5-2

RALEIGH, N.C. – The 40^th-ranked NC State men's tennis team opened its spring season with a convincing, 5-2 win over Elon. The Wolfpack (1-0) has won its last 12 season openers and is a perfect 7-0 all time against The Phoenix.

Match Recap:
NC State took the doubles point quickly. Simon Norenous and Thomas Weigel won first, defeating Elon's Chris Humphreys and Petar Tomic, 6-3. Ivan Saveljic and Igor Saveljic followed shortly after with a 6-4 win on their colligate debuts. At No. 3 doubles, Michael Ogden and Chris Mikrovas narrowly fell in their match, dropping a tough 7-6 (7-4) decision.

In singles play, the upperclassmen put the Pack in command of the match. Both Norenius and Weigel dropped their opponent in straight sets. Norenius defeated Elon's Mario Pacinni, 6-1, 6-2. Pacinni was coming off a win over Duke's 104^th-ranked T.J. Pura two days prior. Weigel followed with a, 6-4, 6-2 win over Felipe Sarrasague at the No. 2 singles spot.

Igor Savelich clinched the match for the Pack with a three-set win over Petar Tomic, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

After dropping matches at the fourth and fifth singles spots, NC State picked up an insurance point, as Ivan defeated Elon's Felipe Osses-Konig in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.

Pack Debuts:
Ogden, Mikrovas and the Saveljic twins all made duel-season debuts for the Pack.

Up Next:
The Pack will be back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader against The Citadel. Matches are slated for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
