CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Darrius Little won four matches at the Southern Scuffle before fifth-ranked Mike Mangrum of Oregon State finally stopped the Wolfpack senior with a 3-1 decision in the championship bout at 141 pounds.
Little finishes the Scuffle with a second-place trophy and a breakthrough performance against some of the best competition in the nation. During the course of the two-day tournament at Chattanooga’s McKenzie Arena, Little pinned Army’s Connor Hanafee at the 5:44 mark, and won decisions over Bryan Pearsall of Penn State, Nick Dardanes of Minnesota and Nicholas Hucke of Missouri. Dardanes is ranked No. 10 nationally, and Hucke and Pearsall are highly regarded performers from strong programs.
Earlier on Monday, freshman Coltin Fought forfeited his consolation-round bout against Bricker Dixon of Cornell, and bowed out of the tournament. With the forfeit, Fought was unable to place in the tournament’s 125-pound bracket, but won his first two matches to reach the quarterfinals. He won major decisions over Gabriel Ramos of Ohio University and Brian Bokoski before falling to third-ranked Alan Waters of Missouri.
