ROCK HILL, S.C. – Landon Warren enjoyed the first two-homer game of her career, and Lindsay Campana allowed just two hits as NC State handled North Florida, 7-0, in its final game at the Winthrop/adidas Invitational on Sunday, March 14.
The Wolfpack moves to 16-9 with the win, while the Ospreys fall to 10-15. Campana (10-3) was magnificent again, giving up a pair of hits and issuing 12 K’s. Devyn Findley (8-8) took the loss for UNF.
A pair of homers got the Pack off to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first as Warren led off with a solo shot that hugged the line in left. Claudia Cooper later cracked a two-run shot in her first at-bat since fouling a pitch off into her face two weeks ago, scoring Alyssa Allbritten who had singled earlier.
Some serious hustle from Samantha Melton helped the Pack put a fourth run on the board in the top of the fourth. Alicia Abbott stroked a double and Melton came on to run in her place. Kristine Bechtholdt then legged out an infield single on a grounder towards third, while Melton used a dead sprint to score all the way from second base.
Warren went deep again in the top of the sixth, stretching the Wolfpack’s lead to 7-0 with a three-run bomb to left. Abbott reached on a fielder’s choice and Bechtholdt followed with her second hit of the afternoon before Warren went yard.
NC State will return to action with a midweek doubleheader at Charlotte on Thursday before hosting Virginia Tech over the weekend to open the ACC portion of its schedule.
