Navy Sails Past NC State Wrestling, 34-6

RALEIGH, N.C. - Navy won he first six matches Saturday night, two of them by fall, and rolled past NC State 34-6 in a college wrestling bout at Cardinal Gibbons High School.
The Midshipmen improved to 11-3 in dual matches, while the Wolfpack dropped to 5-5. Navy won eight matches altogether and took a 25-0 lead through six matches.
Adam Brochetti got Navy off to a 6-0 lead after one bout with a pin at the 4:55 mark over Kody Hamrah at 157 pounds. The Wolfpack's Ryan Nowicki nearly tied the team score in the next match when he just missed pinning Craig Dziewiattkowski in the second period. Dziewiattkowski avoided the fall and went on to take a 10-5 decision.
At 174, Navy's Matt Stolpinski pinned NC State's Kevin Gabrielson at 4:43 to give the Midshipmen a 15-0 lead. Chris Pogue followed with a 12-3 major decision over NC State's Jeremy Colbert at 184. At 197, Thayer Paxton shut out the Wolfpack's Zach Garren 6-0, and Tanner Garrett's 7-3 decision over NC State heavyweight Jainor Palma to give the Midshipmen an insurmountable 25-0 lead with four bouts remaining.
NC State got on the scoreboard with Garrett Cummings' 4-1 decision over Brad Canterbury at 125 pounds, but Navy's Sam Gray picked up a technical fall over Jay Coman, 15-0 at the 4:42 mark, to give the Midshipmen a 30-3 lead. Nate Gulosh won a 14-2 major decision over Jeff Breese at 141 to make it 34-3 before the Wolfpack's Alex Hernandez defeated John Cox 4-2 at 149 in the final bout of the night.
NC State will have the next week off before traveling to Old Dominion on Sunday, February 6 for a 4:30 bout.
