NC State men's tennis is 4-0 on the season, matching its best start since the 1999 season with wins over Davidson (6-1) and The Citadel (7-0) on Sunday, January 23 at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. NC State defeated Gardner-Webb 7-0 and High Point 6-1 on Saturday, and completed the weekend sweep with impressive performances.
NC State made no mistake about the doubles point against The Citadel, sweeping all three matches after dropping the doubles point to Davidson earlier in the day. There would be no repeat of that match, as Nick Cavaday and Will Shaw turned in an 8-3 win at No. 1 singles over the Bulldog's Dossetor and Eason. William Noblitt and Dennis Myers won at No. 3 over Jose/Medica, 8-3 and at No. 2 Mason Schermerhorn and Andre Iriarte won 8-2 over Sawmynaden/Lara.
Noblitt was the first singles player off the court, dispatching Nicholas Medica at No. 4 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. He improved to 4-0 in singles for the Wolfpack, losing only five games in eight sets.
Schermerhorn pushed the Wolfpack lead to 3-0 as he won at No. 3 singles. He defeated Anada Sawmynaden 6-3, 6-4. Iriarte won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles against James Eason, and Cavaday won again at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Daniel Dossetor.
Rupena won at No. 5, beating David Lara 6-1, 6-1, and Ben Zink completed the sweep with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Derek Jose.

Earlier in the day, NC State defeated Davidson 6-1, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The doubles point provided early drama in the match between the Wildcats and the Wolfpack, before Davidson won to go up 1-0 in the match. All three doubles matches were tight, with Davidson taking an early lead at No. 1 doubles behind Miles/Burns, 5-2.
That match moved to 6-3 in favor of Davidson before the Wolfpack duo of Cavaday and Will Shaw came to life. They won the last five games to take the match and provide a much needed spark for the remaining teams. No. 2 doubles went to tiebreak, with Davidson's Bolton/Simihaian winning 9-8 (7) after a back and forth match. No. 3 doubles ended much the same way, as the match was knotted at 7-7. Hartman/Bermeo rallied for Davidson, dropping David Rozek and Ben Zink, 9-7.
After Davidson took the doubles point, William Noblitt quickly evened the match at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Daniel Bermeo of Davidson to move to 3-0 on the season in singles. Noblitt has lost only three games in six total sets this season.
NC State would move ahead 2-1 on Nick Cavaday's win at No. 1 singles, as he took down Donald Miles in impressive fashion, 6-1, 6-0.
Andre Iriarte made it 3-1 in favor of the Wolfpack with his win at No. 3 singles, closing out John Bolton 6-3, 6-1.
NC State would clinch the match on Val Banada's 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.
Dennis Myers won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3 over Matt Hartman, while Josip Rupena won at No. 5 to finish the singles sweep with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 win against Russ Burns.
