DURHAM, N.C. - NC State men's tennis travelled west to Durham to face the No. 6 Duke Blue Devils on Wednesday evening after rain forced a venue change. NC State's indoor facility was not completed, so the match was moved to Durham. NC State's facility should open in a few weeks. NC State fought against the Blue Devils, but fell after facing four top-10 opponents in singles and doubles.
The more experienced Blue Devils faced some stiff challenges from NC State, though the final score may not reflect it accurately. In doubles, NC State was a few points from winning the match at No. 1 as Jon Davis and Will Shaw fell 8-4 at No. 1 doubles to Zimermman/Walter, the No. 3 doubles team in the country. The Wolfpack won at No. 3, 9-8 (8-6) behind Val Banada and William Noblitt, but lost against the No. 7 doubles team in the country at No. 2, giving the doubles point to Duke.
In singles, Duke used the No. 7 player, Phillip King, and the No. 12 player to defeat Taylor and Banada at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
The Wolfpack will next host Clemson on April 4 at 2:00 pm. The match will be played at the Varsity Courts on west campus adjacent to Doak Field. Admission is free.
