BETHLEHEM, Pa. - NC State and seventh-ranked Lehigh each won four bouts Saturday, but the Wolfpack, plagued by injuries, had to forfeit two bouts, and those 12 points proved to be the difference as the Pack fell to the Mountain Hawks, 26-16 before a crowd in excess of 3,000 fans at Grace Hall. Lehigh, which as won eight matches in a row, improved to 20-3 on the season. NC State fell to 7-4.
The Wolfpack got big wins from redshirt-freshman 125-pounder Jeremy Hartrum (10-4), who defeated 13th-ranked senior Mario Stuart 6-3, and from junior 141-pounder Alex Hernandez (14-8), who pinned Matt Ennis. Senior 149-pounder Jake Giamoni (13-5) took a one-point 6-5 decision over Matt Anderson, and senior 165-pounder Dustin Kawa (12-3) won a major decision over Ben Bishop, 17-7.
Injuries to 16th-ranked senior Scott Garren at 157 and to sophomore Daniel Humphries at 184 cost the Wolfpack 12 points in the team scoring. The Mountain Hawks got an 18-6 major decision from 19th-ranked Matt Ciasulli over redshirt-freshman Garrett Cummings (8-6) at 133, and a 17-7 major from fifth-ranked Brad Dillon over Rick Brownlee at 165. The win was Dillon's 40th consecutive victory. At the two top-end classifications, NC State freshmen Zach Garren at 197 and Jainor Palma at heavyweight both dropped 7-3 decisions. Garren (11-10) fell to Matt Cassidy, while Palma (7-13) lost to Joe Sahl.
NC State will return to action on Wednesday, February 11, vs. North Carolina at Reynolds Coliseum. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m.
