
NC State Drops Match to No. 38 Virginia

The NC State men's tennis team dropped to 0-4 in conference with a 7-0 loss to the No. 38 Cavaliers of Virginia. The Cavaliers came out strong to win the doubles point from to Wolfpack, lead by the No. 33 tandem of Doug Stewart and Michael Duquette who defeated Val Banada and R.J. Murray 8-2 at No. 1. Jon Davis and Rehman Esmail fell to Chris Gonyer and Stephen Nolen 8-4 at No. 2, and Will Shaw and Chris Mills lost 8-2 at No. 3 to Rylan Rizza and Nick Meythaler. Banada also played tough at No. 2 singles, but his four game win streak in singles ended with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 loss to Rizza.
Murray lost 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to the 52nd ranked Stewart, and Will Shaw fell 6-3 in his first set before battling to a 7-5 defeat in the second set at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, Jon Davis dropped his match to Stephen Nolen 6-2, 6-4. Rehman Esmail lost at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2 to Stephen Rozek. Chris Mills, coming off his first win of the season against UNC Greensboro, fell 6-1, 6-1 to Nick Meythaler.
The Wolfpack will take on William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. on March 26 at 4:00pm before returning home this Saturday, March 29, against Old Dominion. That match will begin at 1:00 at the Cary Tennis Center.
