
Men's Tennis Defeats Appalachian State 4-3

Raleigh, N.C. - NC State notched its first win of the season, and the first for Jon Choboy's inaugural season as Wolfpack head coach. NC State won the top three singles matches to improve to 1-3 on the season. Will Shaw defeated Erez Cohen of ASU 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in a marathon match at No. 1 singles. R.J. Murray and Val Banada both won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
Murray defeated Ben Shuster 6-4, 6-3 and Banada won 6-4, 6-2 to pick up his first win of the season. Rehman Esmail knocked off Andrew Taylor 7-6 (1), 6-0 at No. 5 for the fourth Wolfpack point. Jon Davis lost at No. 3 to Alon Cohen 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 and Chris Mills dropped No. 6 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, NC State won at No. 2 with the pairing of Davis/Esmail dropping Shuster and Taylor 8-3, but ASU picked up the doubles point by winning at No.1 and No. 3. E. Cohen/Ormsby defeated Murray/Banada 8-5 at No. 1 and Stapleton/A. Cohen won 8-6 over Shaw/Mills at No. 3.
NC State will host the Richmond Spiders on Thursday, February 13 at the Cary Tennis Center. The home match begins at 2:30pm and all are invited to support Wolfpack men's tennis.
