Wolfpack Tennis Falls to Hokies, 6-1

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's tennis team won its fifth straight match Wednesday with a 6-1 victory over North Carolina State. The win improves the Hokies' record to 5-1 on the season.
Tech, ranked 54th in the latest Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll, won five of the six single matches and swept the doubles competition to claim the point.
Tech's Saber Kadiri (Jr., Algiers, Algeria), currently ranked 55th in the nation, defeated Matt Lucas, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot. Francis Huot (Jr., Quebec City, Canada) picked up the win at the No. 2 spot as he beat Michael Carducci 6-4, 6-0. Andreas Lauland (So., Odense, Denmark) kept the ball rolling for Tech at the No. 3 spot with his 6-3, 6-3 win over Ryan Boward. The most impressive victory of the day came at the No. 4 spot. Tech's Davor Dupljak (Sr., Karlovac, Croatia) defeated Reinaldo Valor 6-0, 6-0. The Wolfpack's lone win of the day came at the No. 5 spot when N.C. State's Bryce McGrory beat Michael Kurz (Jr., Stuttgart, Germany), 7-6, 6-3. Tech's Stephane Rod (Sr., Midlothian, Va.) won 6-1, 7-6 over R.J. Murray to close out the No. 6 spot.
The Hokies picked up the double's point by winning all three matches. The No. 1 team of Kadiri and Huot defeated Lucas and Valor, 8-6. Dupljak and Kurz played in the No. 2 spot and defeated John Davis and Boward, 8-2. Laulund and Rod closed out the doubles sweep for Tech with a 8-6 victory over Murray and McGrory in the No. 3 spot.
